Overview
stilus is an AI-powered visual search widget for Shopify stores. We help shoppers find products by describing what they're looking for in natural language, or by uploading outfit inspiration photos. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Data we collect from merchants
Store credentialsShopify domain and access token, used to sync your product catalog. Stored encrypted.
Product catalogTitles, descriptions, images, prices, tags, vendor, product type. Used to power search.
AI-generated dataImage captions and embeddings generated from your product photos. Stored alongside your catalog.
AnalyticsAggregated search queries, click-through rates, and attributed revenue. No personal shopper data is included.
Data we collect from store visitors
When a shopper uses the stilus search widget, we collect:
- Search queries entered into the widget
- Uploaded images (for Shop the Look — processed in real-time, not stored)
- Product clicks from search results
- Cart token (a Shopify session identifier) for purchase attribution
We do not collect personal information from shoppers — no names, emails, addresses, IP addresses, or browsing history outside of the search widget.
How we use this data
- To provide AI-powered search results to shoppers
- To decompose outfit photos into individual garment searches
- To generate analytics dashboards for merchants
- To improve search relevance over time
We do not sell, share, or use this data for advertising purposes.
Data storage and retention
LocationData is stored on servers in the EU and US via Supabase and Vercel.
RetentionProduct catalog data and analytics are retained for as long as the app is installed.
DeletionWhen a merchant uninstalls the app, all associated data is deleted within 30 days in compliance with Shopify's requirements.
Uploaded imagesImages uploaded by shoppers for Shop the Look are processed in real-time and are not stored on our servers.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate stilus:
SupabaseDatabase hosting and vector storage (EU/US)
VercelApplication hosting and serverless functions
Jina AIImage and text embedding for visual search
OpenAIProduct image captioning and outfit decomposition for Shop the Look
Product images are sent to Jina AI and OpenAI for processing. Uploaded shopper outfit photos are sent to OpenAI for decomposition. No personal data is shared with any third party.
GDPR and data protection
- We comply with GDPR and Shopify's mandatory privacy requirements.
- We handle all required compliance webhooks: customer data requests, customer data erasure, and shop data erasure.
- Merchants can request a full export or deletion of their data at any time.
- Shoppers can request deletion of any search data associated with their session by contacting the merchant.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the app dashboard. Continued use of stilus after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
